The Executive Director of Finance is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing financial operations across the entire health system. This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and plays a critical role in strategic financial planning, regulatory compliance, and high-level financial reporting. The Executive Director ensures that financial practices support the organization’s mission of delivering high-quality, cost-effective healthcare throughout California.

Core Responsibilities:

  • System-Wide Financial Oversight: Lead and manage financial operations across all entities, including hospitals, medical groups, and affiliated services.
  • Strategic Planning & Forecasting: Collaborate with the CFO and executive leadership to develop long-term financial strategies, capital plans, and operational budgets.
  • High-Level Financial Reporting: Prepare and present comprehensive financial reports to the CFO and executive team, including performance metrics, variance analyses, and strategic recommendations.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure full compliance with California healthcare financial regulations, reporting standards, and auditing protocols.
  • Operational Efficiency & Cost Management: Identify opportunities for cost reduction and revenue enhancement. Lead initiatives to improve financial processes and systems.
  • Leadership & Collaboration: Serve as a key advisor to the CFO and collaborate with clinical and administrative leaders to support financial decision-making. This position may involve supervision and mentorship of finance staff.

Candidate Profile:

  • Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or Healthcare Administration.
  • Preferred Education: MBA, MHA, or CPA certification is a significant advantage.
  • Required Skills & Experience:
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive financial leadership experience in a healthcare setting.
  • A deep understanding of California healthcare regulations and financial reporting standards.
  • Proven ability to lead complex financial operations and present effectively to executive leadership.
  • Exceptional analytical, communication, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Preferred Skills & Experience:
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive financial leadership experience within a multi-entity hospital system.
