Job Summary


The Department of Critical Race and Ethnic Studies (CRES) at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA., invites applications for a one-year, full-time, fixed-term lecturer position beginning the fall 2024 semester. Our department seeks an individual with teaching experience and scholarly interests in the fields of Ethnic Studies, Critical Race Studies or American Studies. Expectations include teaching introductory undergraduate courses as well as the potential to supervise and mentor students in upper division research projects. The Department of Critical Race and Ethnic Studies currently offers a minor with plans on expanding toward a major in the future. We value collegiality and have regular interdisciplinary collaboration with affiliate faculty across departments in the College of Arts and Sciences including History, Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies, English, Film Studies and Communication Studies.

We look forward to collaborating with a colleague who has strong pedagogical abilities, with particular sensitivity to inclusive, equity-minded teaching practices and who has demonstrated experience or interest in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students from a variety of backgrounds and identities, including those historically marginalized in the academy.

Essential Functions

  • Teach a 4-4 course load (equivalent to 24 credits per academic year); with an emphasis on lower division introductory offerings in Critical Race and Ethnic Studies.
  • Provide supervision and mentoring for student-led research projects in capstone coursework.
  • Hold four office hours per week
  • Attend regular departmental and campus-wide meetings.


Minimum Qualifications

  • A graduate degree in Ethnic Studies, Critical Race Studies, or American Studies.
  • Evidence of effective and reflective college-level teaching.
  • Evidence of inclusive, equity-minded teaching practices.


Desired Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Ethnic Studies, Critical Race Studies, or American Studies.
  • Evidence of course development/teaching experience with demonstrated ability to teach courses in race, ethnicity, and indigeneity.
