Summary

This position will involve adhering to regulations regarding food and beverage production, assuring quality products are delivered to our customers. The Quality Assurance Supervisor will support the Plant Manager in supervision activities of staff as well as other assigned duties.

  • Approves all daily production records to verify adherence to internal programs and standards.
  • Records, issues, and approves all corrective actions needed to close gaps pertaining to preventive controls or general food safety and quality requirements
  • Ensures that all material data in Access/SAGE is correct and that the certificate profile for each material is set up
  • Conducts lab testing as needed (pH, HPLC, refractometer, spectrometer, polarimeter)
  • Sends out customer samples at designated intervals as required by customer
  • Maintaining quality lab equipment and calibrations
  • Drive safety rules, compliance, and overall operational performance values.
  • Reviews and approve finished product for compliance and positive release these goods via ACCESS system
  • Reviews all the data in production floor
  • Assist production staff with calculations for blends, solids adjustments
  • Support R&D efforts, blend formulization
  • Approves, verifies and communicates disposition of incoming raw materials. This is completed through:
  • Approval of compliant Certificates of Analysis (COA)
  • Communicating deviations and non-conformances with suppliers and internal teams.
  • Maintenance of disposition records in addition to cataloging of COA’s and other supporting documentation for future reference
  • Ensure that the documentation needed for all new materials are uploaded and assigned in appropriate system
  • Reviews all material documents to ensure that they meet the required standards
  • Assists with compliance audits, corrective action follow-ups, and continuous improvement activities
  • Transacts, initiates, and communicates a Quality Hold email/excel system to block raw or finished inventory from shipment for issues observed during record review, or as the result of notification from the production floor
  • Manages site micro programs and results trending, 3rd party labs
  • Ensures that Ingredients Plus food safety plans are in conformance with regulatory requirements
  • Ensure production records, internal audits, and other Quality Systems documentation is filed, stored and archived in accordance with record retention policies
  • Maintains the document registries and ensures that the document controllers for each department are trained on the proper documentation format and procedure.
  • Regulatory, Rabbinical/Religious, and Organic programs including document submissions, onsite audits and internal/external document processes (electronic and manual).

  • Maintain, create and complete customer requested food safety/quality documentation

Supervisory responsibilities

  • Assists in recruitment and retention activities to include interviewing, hiring, training, and coaching of operations staff.
  • Oversees the execution and quality of training program for new hires to ensure accurate and adequate operational knowledge is gained.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations and feedback to staff in the department.
  • Oversees the daily workflow of assigned departments.
  • In coordination with human resources, handles employee relations, discipline, and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Intermediate skill level working with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, SAP and TraceGains.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Required education and experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in related food manufacturing
  • 4 year degree in food science or equivalent preferred
  • Experience with Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Safe Quality Food (BRC) FDA, FSIS, or USDA standards are strongly desired
  • HACCP, BRC, or SQF Certifications or training are desired

Work environment and physical demands

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer (including keyboarding.)
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/ or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to see color, and ability to adjust focus.

Compensation

  • The base salary range for this position is $75,000 - $85,000 annually.

Travel required

  • The home office for this role is indicated at the top of this job description. Travel to other Ingredients Plus locations may be required as business needs arise.
