The Underwriter I plays a key role in reviewing merchant applications for payment processing, evaluating risk, and ensuring compliance with bank and industry requirements. This role is ideal for someone early in their underwriting career who is eager to learn, grow, and make an impact in a fast paced environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review merchant applications to assess risk and determine acceptance based on underwriting guidelines
  • Interpret and analyze credit reports, business registrations, financial statements, and tax returns
  • Verify and confirm information submitted on merchant applications
  • Ensure daily applications are processed accurately and in a timely manner
  • Communicate with agents regarding pending applications and required documentation
  • Identify patterns, potential risks, and process improvements
  • Navigate multiple systems and platforms to update and track application status
  • Support team initiatives and perform additional duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience in credit, risk, finance, or a related field preferred
  • Merchant underwriting experience a plus but not required
  • Experience with TSYS a plus
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe PDF
  • Ability to quickly learn new proprietary software (CRM) and third party vendor systems
  • Strong problem solving skills with the ability to apply innovative solutions
  • Customer focused mindset with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong research and analytical skills with great attention to detail
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply business documents, industry standards, and regulations
  • Proficient in basic business math including percentages, ratios, and volume calculations

SALARY:

This role includes quarterly profit-sharing bonuses as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, retirement planning, and/or other benefits.

  • Base salary range: $48,000 - $55,000
  • Salary including quarterly profit-sharing bonus and comprehensive benefits program range (annualized): $67,725 - $ 73,725
